The debate over the origin of man is been sparred over in the streets, in Washington, in the schoolrooms, and even in churches. Both sides offer evidence to counteract the influence from the opposing party. One of the proofs that evolution promoted was the case of the moths in England.
These moths were featured in high school textbooks as evidence for Darwinism. There were two kinds of moths—a light gray and a darker gray. The story goes that during the Industrial Revolution, the new factories poured out smoke and soot, which darkened the tree trunks where the moths perched and made it easier for birds to see the lighter variety and eat them. The story goes that over time this process led to a larger proportion of the darker moths. This has been the showcase example of natural selection.
In recent years, however, a small problem has come to light: Peppered moths don’t actually perch on tree trunks in the wild. They actually perch in the upper canopy of trees. But how does one explain the pictures in the science books. It turns out that it was staged. Scientists glued dead moths onto the tree trunks. One scientist who helped make a television documentary even admitted that he glued dead moths on the trees in producing the film.
The Darwinian scientists were desperate to advocate their view of the origins of man so they concocted erroneous proof of their belief. It amazes me that this piece of shoddy science was allowed in a textbook for high school. As Christians we must be aware of the agenda of those who are seeking to promote Darwinism.
