Interview with Lorene Brewer—Part II

“Miss Lorene, You have taught for so many years, what has motivated you to teach for so long,” I asked. “Matthew, I began teaching out of necessity. You see I was a school teacher, and all the school teachers always taught in the Bible school. It was just the way it was back then. But I enjoyed every minute of my time in the classroom. In fact, I quit teaching when I was eighty years old, but there came a need within the congregation for a ladies teacher and I felt guilty about not teaching. I felt like the Lord gave me a gift and I better use it for His kingdom. So I went back into the classroom.” “What an amazing attitude you have” I said. “Matthew, when I went back, I had every intention of not stopping until people had to drag me out of the room. I always felt that if you do not use it, you will lose it.” “Miss Lorene, I believe there is a lot of wisdom in these words. This has probably kept you so young for so long” I said.

“Since you have taught so long, Miss Lorene, you must have had some goals throughout the years for your classes?” I asked. “Oh Matthew, I have. The number one goal that I have for every class that I have ever taught has been to teach the truth! I want the students to see that this is God’s Word, not mine. I want the people to learn God’s Word so that they will know what they must do to obey Him. In all my classes, I want people to learn to commit to the Lord.” “This is what makes you so special. There are a lot of teachers that teach just the truth, there are a lot of teachers that teach a lot of application, but the best teachers teach the truth with application. This is the best teaching of all” I said wanting to look like I had a clue about this whole teaching thing.
