CLASSES, LESSONS, AND SERMONS

The most important news is the baptism of Cory Butler. Cory has a great story about the events leading up to his immersion. Cory attended worship services Sunday morning after choosing this option over hunting. He said “the sermon was talking to me.” After services he went hunting, and while he was waiting on a deer he said, “I just could not sit there, I just knew I needed to be baptized.” Cory jumped down and jumped into his truck and came to the church building looking for me. He walked in my office and said, “I need to be baptized now.” And we did. Cory was baptized and went away rejoicing in the Lord. His baptism reminded me of these verses “And as they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, ‘Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?’ And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch saw him no more, but went on his way rejoicing” (Acts 8:36-39).

There is some important news concerning classes for the coming months. This Wednesday night I will be starting a class on Restoration History. This class will look at the Stone-Campbell movement. As we study the history, we will also study the issues through scripture. This class will surprise you, inform you, and strengthen you in your faith. You will have a better understanding of the Bible as well as cultures impact on the church.

There is another class that will be starting on January 20th, this is a Sunday morning. The congregation will be going through Christianity 101 again. This time it will be taught by Jerry Duren. He is a great teacher. Everyone is encouraged to take this class if you are a new member of the congregation as well as a new Christian.

One final aspect concerning lessons is the topics for the sermons on Sunday morning and evening. On Sunday morning, Mitchell and I are preaching on revival in the congregation. On Sunday night, I am preaching a series on the seven signs in the book of John. I hope everyone is present to hear these lessons.
