TIME TO BE THANKFUL

One of the members Sunday night asked me this question. “If God took away everything that you thanked Him for, what would you have left?” Interesting question! The question cuts to the heart because you realize that you have not thanked Him for much. There is a possibility that some people would still have everything they had before. This question goes to the heart of the problem—we are not thankful enough.
Luke 17:12-19 tells a powerful story of being thankful or unthankful. “And as He entered a certain village, ten leprous men who stood at a distance met Him; and they raised their voices, saying, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us! And when He saw them, He said to them, Go and show yourselves to the priests. And it came about that as they were going, they were cleansed. Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answered and said, "Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine-- where are they? Was no one found who turned back to give glory to God, except this foreigner?" And He said to him, "Rise, and go your way; your faith has made you well. In this account only one leper offers thanks for being healed. The other lepers continue on with the journey.
This week is thanksgiving. It is a time to be thankful for God’s blessings. But it is also a time to be thankful towards others. After you read this bulletin article, why don’t you sit down and write a thank you note to someone. Write a little note expressing thank you for their kindness or gift. People do not engage in good works to be thanked, but it is nevertheless important for all of us to have a thankful attitude. Thankfulness shows humility because you realize that you are unworthy of the gift. This is contrasted with those who have a sense of entitlement.
So for the thanksgiving holiday season, tell someone (God included) that you are thankful for them.
