NO MILK FOR ME

Growing up in Nova Scotia, my parents had cattle on the farm. We also had a milking cow. My father would go out every night and milk the cow for the family. As a family we never purchased store bought milk. Many of you know the difference between fresh milk straight from the cow and milk from the store. The milk directly from the cow has a stronger and bitter taste. The milk from the store has a milder flavor. Personally, I never really liked fresh cow’s milk. I preferred milk from the store.

Sense I did not like cow’s milk growing up; imagine if I decided to quit drinking milk completely. This decision could have affected my growth. My bones may not be as strong. I might have been shorter. We need milk to grow.

The problem is that we have too many people in this congregation who have quit drinking milk. I am not talking about physical milk but spiritual milk. People have quit coming to class to learn of the milk of the word of God. These people who have stopped coming are not the strong ones, but the ones who need the bible classes the most. The Bible is plain in telling us that we must first drink milk to grow as Christians. “I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able” (1 Cor. 3:2). “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil” (Heb. 5:12-14). “Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation” (1 Pet. 2:2). The Bible is clear in stating that we have to start off with milk.

How is your spiritual diet? Have you given up on the spiritual milk? Have you quit coming to Bible class? This week I want to see everyone with a spiritual milk mustache at worship.
