Throughout the school year, the hope of summer vacation carries the spirits of every school child. During the numerous tests, assignments, presentations, and reports, the expectation of the summer vacation inspires the “sick of school” heart. Now the dreaded time of year has arrived again. Everyone is heading back to school. No more sleeping in, no more staying up late at night, and no more extensive free time.
School can be difficult but also can be a blessing. Learning is a great experience. You are expanding your mind to new possibilities. Education helps you to develop a wide area of interests and hobbies. Through education you gain the ability to articulate your thoughts to others, explore the mysteries of science, and learn about the foundations and laws of the universe.
Going to school also helps in social skills. Children can learn how to interact with one another. Friends are made in school that may last a lifetime.
One must not forget another major purpose of school. Even though the government has taken public prayer out of the school system, this does not mean that we should stop evangelism in school. In the school system young people are being influenced through peer pressure on an everyday basis. As young Christian people we should influence others to life for Christ. Paul gives Timothy some valuable advice in 1 Timothy 4:16 “Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things; for as you do this you will insure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.” School does not need to be a negative experience for young people, but could be a great opportunity to share Christ with their friends.
