MYTHS, LAWSUITS, AND HELL

Most people like fast food. It is cheap and quick. This is why McDonald’s Burger King, Wendy’s, and KFC are so popular. In fact these businesses serve nearly 100 million people every day. The problem with fast food is that it makes one overweight. People know that fast food is generally not good for you. But recently people have been suiting the fast food chains for causing their obesity. People are blaming McDonald’s for causing their increase in weight. Lawyers are getting rich off of these lawsuits and customers are paying higher prices for a Big Mac because McDonald’s has to pay more lawyers to fight these lawsuits in court. But everyone knows that individual people cause their own obesity. One’s genetics may contribute to obesity but ultimately it was the person who chooses to walk into a fast food store and order the extra value meal that is responsible. It is easier to blame then to change.

In America today, people find comfort in blaming others for their faults and problems. People are opposed to taking responsibility for their actions. This is the classic attitude of “The Devil made me do it” mindset. America might preach a “blame others” mentality but the Bible prescribes an attitude of taking responsibility for one’s actions. Notice what Paul says “So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling” (Phil. 2:12). Paul states clearly that one is to work out his or her own salvation.

Unfortunately, some people states that God is harsh if he sends anyone to hell. These people accuse God of being un-loving for this reaction to sinful people. The Bible is not the cause of people going to hell but the solution to people going to hell. The Bible tells one what they must do to be saved. The plan is very clear in stating how man is saved. If a person will believe, confess, repent, and be baptized for the remission of sins and continue to be faithful to the Lord he will go to heaven. But if a person chooses to reject the Gospel than he is the one who sent himself to hell. There is no one to blame besides himself. Everyone who is in hell choose to be there. Where are you presently choosing to go?
