Bud Grimes had a resilient spirit. About two years ago, Bud was given only a few more weeks to live. Most of the family expected Bud’s death at anytime. But somehow Bud continued to hang on. Most believe that Bud fought death not because of his desire to remain in his earthly body, but because of his desire to care for Barbara. Bud had character that put others ahead of self.
This character trait was probably formed in the Navy. Bud retired in 1973 as Master Chief with thirty years of service as a special instructor of aircraft maintenance. While he was in the Navy he received numerous awards, such as a Good Conduct Medal with seven stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Bud’s focus on service extended even beyond himself because numerous family members continue to serve in the United States Military.
The memory of Bud Grimes will continue to live on in the memory of his four children. He will be missed by sons Stanley, David, Richard, and his daughter Patricia. His wife Barbara will certainly miss his caring attentiveness towards her. Bud will also be missed by his brothers William, Ralph, Glen, and Bruce, as well as his sisters Margaret, Louise, Francis, and Annette.
Once John McArthur was asked what he hoped people would remember him by, he responded in stating, “I want people to remember me as a man who loved his family and his country, and served them well.” Bud Grimes will be remembered as a man who loved his God, his family, and his country, and served them well.
