Recently, a wife left her husband because he was having an emotional affair with another woman over the internet. The wife discovered this relationship on the computer. The man and woman never met personally but were involved in a relationship that was destructive to the marriage bond. The wife was scared by her husband’s emotional investment in this other woman.
Unfortunately, sexual and emotional affairs are more common in society. Most people have heard of sexual affairs, but many are not aware of emotional affairs. An emotional affair is a relationship where there is no sexual activity but each party is emotionally invested to an unhealthy level. Many times affairs and emotional affairs happen because the family is not spending quality time together. A brother-in-law of mine stated that he does not talk much to the female co-workers because soon you may enjoy talking to your female co-worker more than your wife.
There are a few habits that will insure affairs and emotional affairs do not happen in a marriage.
Communicate. Communication is the key to connection. Couples must spend time expressing their thoughts to one another. Your mind must be opened to your mate. Communication builds intimacy in the marriage.
Your spouse is the priority. Men and women need to place their spouse as the number priority in their lives. Hobbies, clubs, and work must take second in life. Some men and women will spend all of their time engaging in personal interests instead of engaging the most important person in meaningful time together.
These few habits will strengthen any marriage against affairs and emotional affairs.
