COMMUNITY MEETS CHURCH

There are about twenty-five prisoners outside my door right now. They have come to the fellowship center to watch the Passion of the Christ. Personally, I have never been in prison, but I feel that this is a major treat to these inmates. No one knows what outcome there might be in showing this presentation of the death of Jesus Christ, but one can only hope for changed lives.

This past weekend I was talking to a friend about the church. He was mentioning the need for the church to intersect with its community. He was saying that years ago people looked for a church that taught what they believed was right about the Bible. He Proceeded to explain that now people want to attend a congregation that is impacting the community. People want to see that church attempting to improve the world around them. It is easy to say that we believe and have faith in God but it is another level of faith to try to improve the community.

James 2:18 reads "But someone may well say, 'You have faith, and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.'" Many times we look at this verse through church glasses. We see the verse talking to working church members and inactive church members. Maybe we should also see this verse with a community perspective in mind. We need to picture the community asking the Waynesboro church of Christ about our level of faith. Do we just believe or are we working to improve the County of Wayne? We must be showing this town that the Waynesboro church of Christ is making a difference in this world.
