The year of 2007 was ushered in this week. The Holidays are over and most people are making plans to shed a few pounds, focus on family, or move up in the company work place. The first of January is the time for resolutions and plans for the new year. As another year unfolds, and as goals are developed, one must not forget about important spiritual goals for the coming year. Everyone should try to work towards heaven in 2007. Here are three quick ways:
Connect to God through worship. Maybe you are the causal church attendee. You are the person who is at services 2 out of every 4 weeks. Maybe you are the person who simply attends on special holidays. Whatever your pattern is for worship, make this year the year you commit in your heart to be at the worship services as much as possible. You need to be at church for the weekly strength that you receive from worshipping the great Creator of the universe.
Connect to God through service. In the coming year, ask more than just what you want, ask what you can give back. Look around for opportunities to serve your fellowman, your community, your congregation, and your family. Service helps a person come in contact with God because God’s nature is one of service. Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Connect to God through relationships. The Bible is full of relationships. The Bible shows God’s relationship to His Son, Paul’s relationship to Timothy, Barnabas’ relationship with John Mark, and David’s relationship with Jonathan. Relationships are important to God and to his people. This year take the time to develop stronger relationships with family, friends, and the people of God. We change, grow, and learn through relationships.
This year focus on more than just losing a few more pounds, or working fewer hours on the job. Focus on getting to heaven in 2007.
